EAU CLAIRE—The Chippewa Valley Youth
Symphony, directed by professor of music and theatre arts Ivar Lunde Jr., will
perform at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine
Arts Center. University of Wisconsin senior Daniel Aalto, Eau Claire,
will serve as a guest conductor.
The concert will begin with ballet music from the opera
“Aïda,” a mythic story of doomed love, warring countries and racial
prejudice. A variety of other works will be performed, including Leroy
Anderson’s “Jazz Pizzicato,” and selections from the musical “Gypsy.”
The concert will conclude with selections from “Les Misérables,” a musical
that deals with the tragic circumstances of the poor in France after the
revolution.
The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony is comprised of middle
and high school students interested in gaining symphony experience.
The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony Association and the
UW-Eau Claire College of Arts and Sciences Continuing Education/UW-Extension are
sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.
