MAILED: April 27, 2001

EAU CLAIRE —Twelve University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire fine arts degree graduation candidates will exhibit their works in two shows titled "Paper or Plastic" and "And Then There Were Eight."
The exhibit runs May 11-15 and showcases a variety of art, including sculpture, photography, ceramics, graphic design, illustration and painting.
The "Paper or Plastic" exhibit is the combined effort of seniors Liv Aanrud, Amherst Junction, Elizabeth Nelson, Mankato, Minn., Ben Garthus, Amherst, and Jaime Anderson, Bloomington, Minn. A reception will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 11, in Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
Garthus said his goal is to create a symbolic relationship between his painting and design and find a way to use his graphic design in the workplace to serve the needs of clients.
The "And Then There Were Eight" exhibit is the combined effort of seniors James Jeske, Marshfield, Jenny Dahl, Eagan, Minn., Jamie Diveley, Onalaska, Lori Martin, Mosinee, Matt Brugge, Wild Rose, Christina Miller, Minneapolis, Belinda Tuttle, Janesville, and Lor Thao, St. Paul, Minn. A reception will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
"My design philosophy is to communicate ideas clearly and creatively," said Dahl. "My experiences, the people I've met, and research influence my design work."
Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6-8 p.m. Thursdays and 1-4:30 p.m. weekends. For more information about gallery exhibits, call Tom Wagener at (715) 836-2328.
