EAU CLAIRE The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, April
30. All events are free and open to the public.
TUESDAY, MAY 1:
- The Bassoon Ensemble will perform at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas
Fine Arts Center. The group consists of seniors Amy Fiumefreddo, Sun
Prairie, Toby Yatso, Suamico, sophomore Beth Anne Scherer, Appleton;
freshman Kelli Hanson, Duluth, Minn.; and senior lecturer of music
and theatre arts, Dr. Kristine Fletcher. Senior Kevin Bartig, Wausau,
will assist the group on the harpsichord. Various works will be performed,
including "Piper of Drumnadrochit" by Evan Fletcher and "Le Phénix"
by Michel Corrette.
- Senior alto saxophonist Adam Bassak, Chippewa Falls, accompanied by community
member Judy Lies, will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall
of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The recital will begin with "Concertino" by
Warren Benson, followed by various other works, including "An Arc in Solitude"
by Mark Engebretson and "Le Chant Du Veilleur" by Joaquin Nin. Community
members Sarah Bassak, mezzo-soprano, and Joe Coughlin, a UW-Eau Claire alumnus
on alto saxophone, will assist with the performance.
- Jazz IV, conducted by associate professor of
music and theatre arts, Robert Baca, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner
Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 2:
- Seniors Kait Wainscott, Madison, Lisa Wilhelm, Boscobel, and junior
Jacqueline Cobian, River Falls, will perform a joint student recital at
5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Senior Annemarie
Travia, South Milwaukee, sophomore Elizabeth Leach, Omaha, Neb.,
and UW-Eau Claire alumna Rebecca Wilkinson, Eau Claire. Various works
will be performed, including "If Music be the Food of Love" by Henry Purcell
and "The Best Thing of All" by Marc Blitzstein.
- A recital of works by senior Thomas Anderson, a music composition major from
Aitkin,
Minn., will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas
Fine Arts Center.
THURSDAY, MAY 3:
- Pianist Titus Vettrus, a freshman from Mondovi, will perform a recital at 5
p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Five works will
be performed, including "Gaspard de la Nuit" by Maurice Ravel and "Etudes," Op. 25 by Frederic Chopin.
