MAILED: April 13, 2001
EAU CLAIRE The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Vocal Jazz will
perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas
Fine Arts Center.
The group, under the direction of Daniel Newman, associate
professor of music and theatre arts, will perform 10 selections by various
composers.
The concert will begin with Kirby Shaw's "Brand New
Attitude," followed by "Chattanooga Choo Choo," arranged by Vern Swain. Other
selections will include "Tuxedo Junction" arranged by Jerry Nowak and
"Yesterday" arranged by David Cazier.
"The concert will begin and end with all ten
singers in one ensemble," said
Newman. "However, because vocal jazz is a small ensemble art form, we have formed
two groups within the class, The Connotations and The Dischords, and each of the
singers in these groups will be spotlighted in solos. I am looking forward to
presenting the new vocal jazz ensembles to the public on April 24."
Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, are
$3.75 for adults; $2.75for those age 62 and older, children 17 and younger,
and faculty or staff with a university ID; or free for students with a university ID.
