The 29th annual Scholastic Honors Week will be held April 23-28 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to recognize the scholastic achievement of students.
Thirty-one UW-Eau Claire honor societies will sponsor the weeks activities.
Unless otherwise noted, all events will be held in Davies Center.
Honors Week will begin with a childrens book drive sponsored by Kappa Delta Pi. The donated books will be distributed to a Ronald McDonald House. The book drive will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday in the Student Organizations Complex.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Kappa Delta Pi and the Future Teachers Club will sponsor Professor of the Year voting in the East Lobby of Davies Center.
Sigma Delta Pi will sponsor the Juegos Florales Poetry Reading Competition in Spanish from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Alumni Room.
Golden Key Honor Society will begin its initiation at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Davies Theatre. At 7:30 p.m., the Pi Sigma Alpha initiation will be held and the Karl Andresen Award will be presented in the Arrowhead Room. The Order of Omega initiation will begin at 8 p.m. in the Alumni Room.
Omicron Delta Epsilon and the economics faculty will sponsor a faculty debate, which will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in Davies Theatre.
The Beta Beta Beta initiation and biology scholarship ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Presidents Room. Phi Eta Sigma will hold its pledging ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium. At 7 p.m., Sigma Tau Delta will sponsor a faculty reading in the Wisconsin Room. Kappa Mu Epsilon will begin its initiation at 7:30 p.m. in Hibbard Hall Penthouse. At 8:30 p.m., Alpha Lambda Delta will hold its pledging ceremony in Schofield Auditorium.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sigma Theta Tau will sponsor a graduate student research presentation, Chronic Pain and Coping, in Room 114 of the School of Nursing.
At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sigma Gamma Zeta II will have its initiation in the Presidents Room. From 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., the annual SOPHS telethon will be held with TV-10 in Towers TV lounge.
From 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in the Skylight Lounge, UW-Eau Claire and Sigma Theta Tau will sponsor nursing workshops. Dr. Suzanne Van Ort, professor emerita and former dean of the School of Nursing, will present the keynote speech titled Adventures in Research-Based Nursing Practice: Visions of Nursing Leadership. A nursing research reception will be held at 4 p.m. in the Presidents Room.
On Saturday, the Sigma Theta Tau initiation will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Davies Theatre. Van Ort also will be the keynote speaker presenting Developing Leadership for the 21st Century. There will be a reception following the ceremony in the Skylight Lounge.
The initiation for Phi Kappa Phi will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Davies Theatre. At 1 p.m., Kappa Delta Pi will begin its initiation in the Presidents Room. Also at 1 p.m., Phi Eta Sigma will hold its initiation in Schofield Auditorium, and at 2 p.m. Beta Alpha Psi will hold its initiation in the Alumni Room.
Beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, a combined reception for all honors groups will be held in the Council Fire Room. The Alumni Association and the UW-Eau Claire honors groups will sponsor the event.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, the Beta Gamma Sigma initiation will be held in the Alumni Room, and the Omicron Delta Kappa initiation will begin at 3 p.m. in the Presidents Room. Alpha Lambda Delta will hold its initiation at 4 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium.
The 2001 honors banquet honoring students, faculty and parents will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Spruce/Tamarack Room. Seating for the banquet will begin at 5 p.m. and tickets are required. Tickets are $9.50 and are available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727. The dinner reservation deadline is Tuesday, April 17.
On Sunday, the initiation ceremony for Mortar Board will begin at 11:30 a.m. on the Central Campus Mall. The inclement weather site for the initiation will be Davies Theatre. A Sunday brunch, sponsored by Mortar Board, will begin at noon in Dulany Inn.
