The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host the 44th Annual Juried Student Art Show April 10-May 1 in Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
Sculptors Genna Watson, art faculty member at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore, and John Dickson, professor of art at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, Washington, D.C., will select and judge the submitted student artwork for this years show. They also will give a slide lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in Room 101 of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The show allows all students the opportunity to have their works judged by outside artists and have their work displayed in the Foster Gallery, said Tom Wagener, Foster Gallery director.
The show is open to all UW-Eau Claire students. Works entered must be original and produced in the past year. All works must be submitted between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. April 5-6 in the Foster Gallery.
Judging will take place April 7 and results will be posted at 10 a.m. April 9 across from the art department office in the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The opening reception and awards ceremony will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 10. Cash prizes will be given for first, second and third places and honorable mentions.
A display honoring the memory of Ted Leslie, a promising young artist and a UW-Eau Claire junior who died of cancer late last year, will be held in conjunction with the juried art show. A Tribute to Ted Leslie: Prints and Drawings from Teds Final Works will be displayed in Foster Gallery and in the Skylight Lounge, Davies Center.
Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6-8 p.m. Thursdays and 1-4:30 p.m. weekends. For more information about gallery exhibits, call Wagener at (715) 836-2328.
