An experienced student services professional has been appointed to the position of Executive Director of Enrollment Services and Director of Admissions at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Provost and Vice Chancellor Ronald Satz announced today the appointment of Robert Lopez, of Beaver Lake, Neb., to the position formerly held by Roger GroeneWold, who retired last summer. The appointment is effective April 16.
Lopez has been the director of enrollment management at Nebraskas Peru State College, a small, state-funded college serving southeast Nebraska. He has spent his professional career in the delivery of student services including increasing enrollment, developing successful early outreach and volunteer initiatives, increasing student diversity, success in coaching, and leading coalitions and committees to improve campus life.
At UW-Eau Claire he will play a lead role in the design, development, implementation and management of a comprehensive and integrated enrollment services program. He will be in charge of admissions and recruitment services for traditional and non-traditional undergraduate students and will play a leadership role in the coordination of various student services. He will work closely with the universitys graduate programs to recruit, admit and register qualified students and will develop recruitment and retention strategies for the university.
I am very excited about the opportunity to work at UW-Eau Claire, Lopez said. I am impressed with the people I met during my visit to campus, and my family and I are looking forward to living in Eau Claire.
Lopez began his career as a high school teacher and later became director of admissions and athletics at Fort Scott Community College, Fort Scott, Kan. From 1987-1998, he held positions at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Ariz., including recruiting coordinator and assistant coach, and program coordinator in the Counseling and Testing Center and in the Office of Admissions. He was assistant director of admissions at Northern Arizona from 1994-98 and was marketing manager for Southwest Student Services Corp., Mesa, Ariz., for one year before going to Peru State College in 1999. He holds a bachelors degree in science, health and physical education and a masters degree in educational administration from Illinois State University, Normal, Ill.
Chemistry professor Jack Pladziewicz, who chaired the Search and Screen Committee, said Lopez possesses a combination of experience, leadership ability and interpersonal skills that will make him a superb director of admissions and enrollment management.
The search committee was especially impressed with his ability to connect with the diverse groups including students, staff, faculty and administrators, Pladziewicz said.
Satz said interim admissions director Kristine Anding will return to her position as associate director of admissions, and Joey Gibbon, interim associate director, will return to her position as assistant director of admissions.
Lopez will move to Eau Claire with his wife, Nancy, a high school science teacher. They have two sons, Tyler, age 20, and Daniel, age 18.
