The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education is cosponsoring a course tour to Germany and Denmark Aug. 1-16.
The course, Exploring Traditional Folk Tales in Germany and Denmark, will explore European folk and fairy tales and their influence on the growth of a literature for adults and children, as well as focus on the lives and works of selected European writers, especially the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen.
Course work for the tour is designed for classroom teachers, school media specialists and librarians, although family members and other interested travelers are welcome to join the group, which is limited to 25 people.
The estimated cost of the tour is $2,689 based on double occupancy. In addition to hotel rooms, the fee includes airfare from Minneapolis/St. Paul, local ground transportation, professional guides, 14 breakfasts, four lunches, seven dinners, admission for several tours, and travel insurance.
Wisconsin residents wishing to earn two graduate credits through UW-Eau Claires department of foundations of education must pay an additional fee of approximately $460. The sponsors also have applied for continuing education units from the Department of Public Instruction. There will be a fee for those wishing to earn CEUs.
Miriam Hansen, who recently retired from Indianhead Federated Library System and was a library media specialist and classroom teacher, will lead the tour. Dr. Jan Hansen, UW-Eau Claire professor of economics, also will accompany the tour group.
The deadline for registration is Monday, April 2.
Additional sponsors of the tour are UW-Extension, UW-Eau Claires department of foundations of education and the Indianhead Federated Library System.
