UW-Eau Claire Music Ensembles
To Perform Holiday Concerts Dec. 10
MAILED: Nov. 29, 2000

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s music ensembles will present the 26th annual Holiday Concerts at 2 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in Zorn Arena.
The concert brings together Brass Choir, Wind Symphony, University Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir, Singing Statesmen, Symphonic Choir and Women’s Concert Chorale to perform seasonal music.
Presented to the community as gifts from the university’s department of music and theatre arts, along with the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, the free concerts provide an opportunity for ensembles to perform individually and in combination.
The Brass Choir will open the concert with “Celebration — A Concert Overture” by Keith Snell. Then the Symphonic Choir and University Symphony Orchestra will perform together “Climb to the Top of the Highest Mountain” by Carolyn Jennings. The Singing Statesmen will continue the performance with two versions of “Ave Maria,” the first a Gregorian chant and the second by Tomas Luis de Victoria. The Statesmen will finish with “O Magnum Mysterium” by Jacob Handl.
The Wind Symphony will perform Ian McDougall’s “Bells” and Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride,” and the Women’s Concert Chorale will perform “’Twas the Night before Christmas” by Ken Darby. Next, the Brass Choir will return for Gabriel Faure’s “Pavane,” followed by the Concert Choir’s set that includes “The Lamb” by John Tavener and “Cantus Gloriosus” by Josef Swider.
The University Symphony Orchestra will return to finish out the program by performing “Ode to 2001” by Richard van Tchaikovsky. This work is a collage from works by Richard Strauss, Ludwig van Beethoven and Peter Tchaikovsky as arranged by the conductor.
UW-Eau Claire Foundation scholarship recipients will be special guests at the concert.
Tickets are free and are available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727.
