The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education, Nursing will present a program for nurses titled "The Use and Monitoring of Psychotropic Drugs in Long-Term Care" from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the Holiday Inn Campus Area, Eau Claire.
The program will enhance the knowledge base of nurses who administer and monitor the use of psychotropic drugs. Topics to be covered include general drug actions, indications for use, and clinical considerations of antipsychotics, antidepressants, antianxiety agents, sedative/hypnotics, and nontraditional drugs used for behavioral control. Proper monitoring, contraindications, precautions, side effects and adverse reactions also will be discussed.
The presenter of the program will be Dr. Todd A. Johnson, assistant professor, College of Pharmacy, University of Minnesota. Johnson also is a clinical pharmacist at Lake Region Hospital and Regional Treatment Center in Fergus Falls, Minn.
The program costs $95, which includes instructional materials, lunch and refreshments. Participants may earn six continuing education contact hours.
