EAU CLAIRE
Seven small ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in Schofield Auditorium for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's 6th annual A Cappella Extravaganza.
"This event gives all the a cappella groups a chance to perform together," said senior Jaclyn Rudebeck, Germantown, who is a member of the group Girls' Night Out. "Plus the concert serves as a sampler for people so they know what to expect at our individual concerts."
The lineup for the Friday evening show includes the UW-Eau Claire Chamber Choir, the Eau Claire Memorial Madrigals, UW-Eau Claire Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Girls' Night Out, Fifth Element, Impromptu and Innocent Men. Each group is allotted 10-12 minutes to perform.
In recent years attendance has risen at this event. Dr. Gary Schwartzhoff, director of choral activities and coordinator of the event, attributes this to the popularity of a cappella pop groups, such as 'N Sync. Rudebeck said the groups also have done a better job at advertising themselves and have made it a point to perform at various functions around campus, such as CUBEfest.
Rudebeck said it's obvious there is a strong a cappella presence on campus. "This concert is a celebration of that," she said.
All tickets for the event are $5 for reserved seating and are available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727. -30- LK/BW
