MAILED: Oct. 5, 2000
The Chilled Water Loop Project will begin today (Oct. 5) at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Work will begin at the northeast corner of Phillips Hall and proceed toward Zorn Arena. It will then continue along the south side of Garfield Avenue and into the northwest corner of the McIntyre Library loading dock.
The project involves installing two large pipes into the ground to carry the chilled water supply from the new central chiller, which will provide air conditioning to Phillips and Schneider halls. To install the pipes, the contractor will open a trench that may be as long as 100 feet.
During construction, some tree limbs will be trimmed and there is the potential that one or two trees or shrubs could be lost to the project.
The initial phase of the project is expected to take about six weeks. During the winter, sidewalks in the construction area will have a temporary gravel surface. Complete restoration of the sidewalks will be done in the spring. The chilled water system is expected to be functional by April 15, 2001.
For additional information about the project, call Terry Classen at (715) 836-5278 or Ted Short at (715) 836-2518.
