The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education, Nursing will present a program for nurses titled "Nursing Care of the Individual with Head Trauma: Acute Care to Recovery" from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at Best Western Midway Hotel, Eau Claire.
Every year, head trauma affects about two million people in the United States and results in more than $4 billion in direct medical expenses. The morning session will address the mechanisms, treatment and amelioration of head injuries, while the afternoon session will highlight recovery and rehabilitation, treatment advances, outcome predictions following head injury, and individual and family issues in the recovery process.
Presenters for the program include Dr. Michaelene Mirr, UW-Eau Claire professor of adult health nursing; Karen Geissler, clinical educator, neurosciences department, Luther Midelfort; Dr. Michael Murphy, neurologist, Sacred Heart Hospital; Audrey Nelson, CVE, Mike Wilson House; and Mary Beth Clark, speech therapist, Luther Midelfort.
The program costs $85, including instructional materials, lunch and refreshments. Participants may earn six continuing education contact hours.
