EAU CLAIRE
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education, Nursing will present a program titled "Therapeutic Interactions with Abused or Traumatized Children" from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the Holiday Inn Campus Area, Eau Claire.
The program addresses the various ways trauma impacts normal child development, certain key concepts (such as resiliency and magical thinking), the recognition of trauma, and the stages of recovery. The recognition of permanent physiological effects from trauma, the development of symptoms and the introduction of specific therapy techniques will be emphasized.
Terence W. Barrett, a licensed psychologist at Discovery Counseling and Educational Workshops Center in Fargo, N.D., will present the program that targets nurses, social workers, counselors, psychologists and other mental health professionals.
The program costs $95, which includes instructional materials, lunch and refreshments. Participants may earn six continuing education contact hours.
