The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Oct. 9. All events are free and open to the public.
MONDAY, OCT. 9:
SUNDAY, OCT. 15:
- As part of the OcTUBAfest 2000 celebration, Alan Baer, principal tubist of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, will give a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Dr. Barbara Young, lecturer of music and theatre arts, will provide accompaniment on the piano. Among the five works that Baer will perform are "Encounters II" by William Kraft, "Tuba Buffo" by Julius Jacobsen, and John Williams' Concerto for Tuba.
- Les Favorites, a period instrument ensemble specializing in the music of the middle and late baroque period, will perform at 4 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Performers include community members Laura Handler, baroque violoncello, and Lucinda Marvin, baroque violin; associate professor of music and theatre arts Dr. Tim Lane, baroque flute; and professor of music and theatre arts Nanette Lunde, harpsichord. The group will perform five works, including pieces by Marin Marais, Karl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann.
- Eugene Power, a senior from Apple Valley, Minn., will give a conducting recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. A group of 31 students will play Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring Suite," the version for 13 instruments, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67.
