David Fleitas, program coordinator of Hispanic/Latino academic and student services at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has been appointed as the state chairperson for the National Association of Hispanic Latino Studies.
As chairperson, Fleitas will be involved in creating a Wisconsin chapter of the national association. He will advocate for the local chapter and the national association to support the UW-Eau Claire Latin American studies conference planned for May 2001. Fleitas also will assist in the promotion of the national organization in Wisconsin and recruit prospective presenters for the national conference. Fleitas hopes to create a new and active network of Wisconsin interdisciplinary scholars and academics working within Latin American studies.
Fleitas is excited about what he can offer to this position. "I'm excited to create a respected name for the UW-Eau Claire Latin American studies program at the state and national level," Fleitas said.
Fleitas will begin serving as the state chairperson immediately.
