EAU CLAIRE
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host its annual Juried Student Art Show May 4-18 in Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
For the past 43 years, UW-Eau Claire's art department has invited a guest artist to judge student works on campus.
"The show allows students to display the results of their past year's research and affords the university and community the opportunity to see what the art students are creating in their studies," said Tom Wagener, Foster Gallery director.
Painter Derrick Buisch, a member of the UW-Madison art faculty, will select and judge the works in this year's show.
The art faculty recommends possible jurors who are prominent in the art field, said Wagener in regards to how the jurors are chosen. From the recommendations, he contacts the artists to see if they are willing to judge.
The show is open to all UW-Eau Claire students. Works entered must be original artworks produced in the past year. Works must be submitted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. April 27-28 in the Foster Gallery.
Judging will take place April 29. The results will be posted at 10 a.m. May 1 across from the art department office in Haas Fine Arts Center.
The opening reception and awards ceremony will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. May 4 in Foster Gallery.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays and 1-4:30 p.m. weekends. For more information, call Tom Wagener, (715) 836-2328. -30- LK/BW
