Earth Week Activities
Planned at UW-Eau Claire
MAILED: April 14, 2000|
Several organizations at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will sponsor activities in honor of Earth Week April 17-23.
UW-Eau Claire organizations have "adopted" various sections of the university campus grounds. Two times a semester, including Sunday, the organizations remove litter from their adopted areas. Areas still remain for organizations to adopt. The Residence Hall Environmental Group and Student Senate Environmental Committee will sponsor the clean up.
The Student Senate-sponsored Volunteer for the Earth, which will be held Tuesday, is an event that tries to interest students in helping their environment. Clubs, organizations and businesses from Wisconsin and Minnesota will have information tables on the Central Campus Mall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Businesses also will be seeking interns from all majors. In the case of rain, the event will be held Wednesday.
Call Becky at the Student Senate office, (715) 836-4646, for more information on Adopt-a-Mall and Volunteer for the Earth.
Outdoor Recreation will sponsor a presentation by Kenny Salway at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the Outdoor Recreation Center. Salway is a guide, trapper, fisherman, woodsman and root and herb collector who believes in a simple life close to nature. His presentation consists of a unique blend of folksy humor, storytelling and woods lore.
Students will clean up the banks of the Chippewa River Wednesday. Outdoor Recreation, Residence Hall Environmental Group, Biology Club, Conservation Club and the Student Senate Environmental Committee will sponsor the clean up. Interested individuals should meet at 4 p.m. behind Hilltop Center. Call Outdoor Recreation, (715) 836-3616, for more information on Salway and the Chippewa River bank clean up.
