EAU CLAIRE — Aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles for people age 55 and older, the 12th Annual Primetimers' Spring Fest will take place at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Davies Center from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 21.
"The Good Doctor Says: 'Lighten Up!'" is the title of the opening presentation by Dr. Stuart Robertshaw, a national speaker and humorist. Robertshaw, who will present at 9 a.m. in Schofield Auditorium, is a professor of psychology and education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and serves as CEO of the National Association for the Humor Impaired.
Throughout the rest of the day, participants may attend three workshop sessions. Several topics will be offered at each session. Forty-four different workshops will be presented during the day.
The first workshop session, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., includes such topics as investment strategies, spirituality and healing, creative art workshops, beginning computer skills, fitness, tai chi, and ballroom and swing dancing.
The second workshop session, from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., includes topics such as coping with anxiety and stress, nutrition, juggling, yoga and relaxation, the planetarium show at the UW-Eau Claire Planetarium, butterfly gardening and computer technology. Spring Fest participants also may tour the Chippewa Valley Museum from 12:45 to 3 p.m.
The final workshop session, from 2 to 3 p.m., includes topics such as medical assistance, healing approaches, yoga, gardening, international folk dancing, writing workshops and the planetarium show.
A closing session, featuring Steve Russell and Kobi Shaw as the "In Capable Hands Juggling Duo," will take place at 3 p.m. in the Spruce/Tamarack Room, Davies Center.
Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At this time, attendees also may participate in additional workshops, which cover social security benefits, hobbies and collecting, and alternative health treatment.
An exhibitor hall will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the West Blugold Room and Skylight Lounge. More than 30 exhibitors will display their products and services. From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Grace Lutheran Foundation will sponsor the opportunity for each participant to have his or her picture taken free of charge in the Photo Galleria. The photos will be available at the end of the day.
The $21 registration fee covers instruction, refreshments and lunch. Some sessions will require an additional materials and admission fee. The registration deadline is March 14.
