Art Degree Candidates
To Exhibit March 9-16
MAILED: Feb. 24, 2000|
Nine University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire bachelor of fine arts degree candidates will show their work in one of two exhibits March 9-16 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
A reception for "Senior Exhibition II" will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in the Foster Gallery. The reception for "Senior Exhibition III" will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 12, also in the gallery.
Each of the exhibits will showcase paintings, photography, drawings, illustrations and ceramics.
"Senior Exhibition II" will comprise works by seniors Andrew Swant, Eau Claire; Tyler Fleig, West Salem; Tanya Johnson, Apple Valley, Minn.; Brian Frank, Middleton; and Jesse Mangerson, Rhinelander.
Mangerson said his works deal with the ideas of self in a social content versus the idea of a true self or the person that only the self sees and knows.
"My work visually deals with the appropriation of images so that some of the content of the original work is still visible, but it has been reworked to have a different meaning," Swant said.
The following seniors will display works in "Senior Exhibition III": Kayla Mourning, Elk River, Minn.; Rebecca Stoll, Menasha; Christy Anderson, Bruce; and Kara Winius, Appleton.
"I try to find visual treasures in everyday scenery, to observe things that most people don't see or at least from an angle out of the ordinary," said Stoll referring to her photographs. Stoll also will showcase digital restorations of photographs.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays and 1-4:30 p.m. weekends. For more information, call director of Foster Gallery Tom Wagener, (715) 836-2328.
