'Between Strategy and Practice'
Joint Research Exhibit to Open
MAILED: Dec. 1, 1999|
Culminating a joint research grant, senior Dustin Larson, Roseville, Minn., and art department chair Steve Katrosits will exhibit their collaborative works Dec. 15 to Jan. 28 at The State: Regional Arts Center in downtown Eau Claire.
An opening reception for the painting exhibit will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at The State.
"These are paintings in dialogue with the tradition of formal geometric abstraction," Larson said. "We manipulate and cross over the language of sign systems pertaining to scientific diagrams, popular commercial culture and high abstract painting."
The grant for the project was administered by the Office of University Research at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Katrosits said the grant was to allow both of them to do research on issues in contemporary abstraction. Funding provided Larson with time, materials and travel.
"For me it has been wonderful to discover and share ideas about painting that is exciting to both of us, to obtain resources for teaching, to learn to teach and to see a major exhibition of Jonathan Lasker's paintings of the 1990s," Larson said.
Gallery hours are Mondays noon-5 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursdays 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
