Jan Larson Appointed to Interim Position
In Office of Academic Affairs
MAILED: Nov. 18, 1999|
Jan Larson, an associate professor in the communication and journalism department, has been appointed to an interim position in the Office of Academic Affairs. Her working title will be interim assistant to the provost and vice chancellor, effective Jan. 13.
Larson will assist Provost Ronald Satz with a number of projects during the coming spring and summer until the associate vice chancellor positions held by interim appointees are filled on a permanent basis.
Satz said he will wait until next semester to begin the search for the permanent replacements for the associate vice chancellor position now held by Dr. Thomas Miller, who will return to the history department in January, and the other interim vice chancellor position held by Dr. William Smethells.
"In the meantime, I am very pleased that Dr. Meg Dwyer and Dr. Smethells will continue to serve as interim associate vice chancellors," Satz said. "In addition, I decided after consulting with Chancellor Mash to ask a faculty member to assist me with a number of projects until we are able to permanently fill the associate vice chancellor positions."
Larson will conduct research, gather information and prepare reports as requested. She will assist in the completion of special projects related to curricular initiatives and program development, entitlement processes, faculty development, enrollment planning, Plan 2008 and other diversity initiatives. She also will assist in preparing promotional literature for faculty and student recruitment and retention efforts.
Larson joined the UW-Eau Claire faculty in 1991. She holds a bachelor's degree from Stanford University and a master's degree from Columbia University. During the coming spring semester, she will retain a 25 percent academic year appointment in the department of communication and journalism.
