EAU CLAIRE
Top high school students who choose to attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will receive financial support from an alumna's estate.
The Viola H. Tilleson Estate includes a bequest of approximately $20,000 to UW-Eau Claire for scholarships.
Tilleson's gift will be used to endow a Wisconsin Academic Excellence Scholarship in perpetuity. Presented to the best students from each Wisconsin high school, the WAES awards provide a $2,250 scholarship toward tuition and fees, which is renewable for three additional years. If the state's WAES program for high school valedictorians is ever discontinued, the Tilleson endowment will be used to support other merit scholarships at UW-Eau Claire.
Tilleson graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1923 and then taught for 42 years.
UW-Eau Claire was one of several organization Tilleson supported through her estate planning.
