UW-Eau Claire Announces|
Summer Parking Rules
MAILED: June 15, 1999|
Free parking is available this summer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in some parking lots but permits are still needed in others.
Motorists can park for free in the Water Street, Haas Fine Arts and Putnam lots on lower campus and in the Towers, Oak Ridge and Bridgman lots on upper campus.
"There is plenty of parking in the summer months so we try to use it as a benefit by allowing people to park for free in these lots," said Gary Bartlett, parking and transportation coordinator.
Permits are needed to park in the Hibbard, Nursing, Phillips, McPhee and Murray lots. People with student (S), faculty (F) or guest permits can park in any spot in the Phillips lot except for those spots marked guaranteed faculty (GF), Bartlett said. Only people with GF permits can park in GF spots.
Students cannot park in the Hibbard lot and they must be among the first 50 students in the Phillips lot to get a spot there. After 50 students have parked in the Phillips lot, others will be asked to park across the river.
All parking meters will be enforced from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday during the summer. And, as always, motorists must park their vehicles heading into parking stalls in all campus lots.
Parking and transportation staff will be stationed on the corner of Park Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue and in the Hibbard lot to help people get where they need to go.
"We will have people there to assist faculty, staff and students but more importantly to help guide visitors and conference and orientation people," Bartlett said.
The parking staff will face another challenge later this summer when the top of the State Street hill closes for repairs.
"We don't know much right now but when the time comes we'll adjust," Bartlett said. "We'll try to anticipate where the confusion might occur and then go with the flow."
No additional parking spots will be added on campus this summer but existing spots will receive upgrades such as re-striping.
Major repairs will be done in the Murray, McPhee, Towers and Putnam parking lots, and in the lot behind Hilltop Center.
"We'll be coating those lots with a layer of tar emulsion," Bartlett said. "We just want people to be aware that starting in late July through early August these lots will be closed for two to three days at a time and people will be asked to park elsewhere."
The transit system will not run its campus routes this summer but students, faculty and staff can still use their university IDs to ride for free on other city transit routes.
