Zachary Sauer Receives
Blugold Fellowship

EAU CLAIRE
Zachary Sauer of West Bend, who will attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire this fall, has received a Blugold Fellowship for the 1999-00 academic year.
Blugold Fellowships are given annually to up to 20 incoming freshmen based on academic record, national test scores, an essay, and school and community leadership and service. The fellowship provides an opportunity to do research with or serve as an assistant to faculty. In addition, each recipient will receive a $500 scholarship and a $1,200 stipend. The funds, administered through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, are renewable for a second year.
Sauer will work with the director of service learning, Robert Burns, on research on how the presence of animals influences the mental and physical wellness of humans coping with life-threatening diseases or other health ailments.
Sauer, a graduate of West Bend High School, is the son of Lee and Sue Sauer. -30- RES/JW
