EAU CLAIRE
Debbie Bradley, editor of the Stevens Point Journal, received the 1999 communication and journalism department's Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Bradley, who graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1974, was honored earlier this month during the UW-Eau Claire Communication and Journalism Convocation.
Bradley, a native of Racine, began her career in 1974 as a general assignment reporter for the Wausau Daily Herald. In 1976, she moved to the Stevens Point Journal where she worked as an education reporter and later as editor of the Accent, Living and Community sections. In 1989, she was named managing editor of the newspaper. And in March 1998, shortly after Thomson Newspapers bought the Journal, Bradley was named editor.
During her 25 years in the newspaper business, Bradley has received a national award for commentary from the Education Writers of America, served as president of the Wisconsin Associated Press Association and traveled to Stevens Point's sister city Rotov Veliky in Russia as part of an official delegation. -30- JB
