The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Vocal Jazz will present a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. May 2 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
Under the direction of Daniel Newman, the 12-member ensemble will perform works including Kirby Shaw's "Sweet Georgia Brown," "Straighten Up and Fly Right" by Nat Cole and Irving Mills, and "Blackbird" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
"The ensemble is larger this semester resulting in a thicker sound," Newman said. "It is a talented and enthusiastic group which is fun to hear."
Although most of the music Vocal Jazz performs is a cappella, three songs on the program, "That Cat is High," "Bassically Blues," and "I've Got You Under My Skin," will be performed with back-up tracks, Newman said.
Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, are $3.75 for the public, $2.75 for seniors, children under 18, faculty or staff with university ID, or free for students with university ID. -30- JV/JB
