Many jazz greats will gather under one roof at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire later this month thanks to a program by Jazz Ensemble III.
The ensemble's spring concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. April 27 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
In celebration of the Duke Ellington Centennial, Jazz Ensemble III will include two Ellington pieces in the program, "Suite Thursday" featuring the saxophone section, and "Ellingtonia."
Other composers to be showcased include Herbie Hancock, Dean Sorenson and Hoagy Carmichael. A number of student soloists will perform throughout the program, which will be conducted by Robert Baca, associate professor of music.
Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, are $3.75 for the public, $2.75 for seniors, children under 18 or faculty/staff with university ID, or free for students with university ID.
