Foster Gallery Exhibit|
To Open Feb. 25
MAILED: Feb. 18, 1999|
An exhibit titled "Medical Illustrations and Design from the Mayo Clinic" will open Feb. 25 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The exhibit will continue through March 30.
Medical illustrators assist their clients in visually communicating complex anatomical, surgical and clinical information in an understandable manner.
The Mayo Clinic Foundation employs the medical illustrators and computer graphic artists who created the works that will be displayed in the exhibit. Tom Wagener, director of the Foster Gallery, said the artists work in the Visual Information Section.
"Artwork on display will range from early 20th century drawings by renowned illustrators such as Eleanor Frye and Russell Drake to modern day computer generated images and video," Wagener said.
Works on display are the property of the Mayo Clinic and are being loaned to the Foster Gallery for the exhibition. This is the first public exhibition of their medical illustrations in recent years. Wagener, Bobby Pitts, assistant professor of art, R. Michael Belknap and Alice McKinney of the Mayo Clinic will jointly curate the exhibit.
"This will be a fascinating exhibition not only for art, biology and nursing students and the general public, but also for the medical and scientific community who have seen these works in their textbooks and literature for years," Wagener said. "They now will have the chance to view the originals firsthand and to visit with Mayo medical illustrators at the opening reception."
An opening reception for the exhibit will run from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 25 in the gallery.
