EAU CLAIRE — A workshop designed to offer social workers practical information about the complex world of the criminal justice system will be held March 24 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Midway Hotel in Eau Claire.
Titled "Inside the Criminal Justice System: Practical Information for Social Workers," the workshop features a number of lectures, group discussions, demonstrations and experimental activities for area social workers.
Participants will gain a basic understanding of the criminal justice system and will acquire skills needed to participate in criminal justice proceedings, to effectively advocate the interests of clients and to better understand colleagues in the criminal justice system.
Presenters during the workshop include Julie Foley, director of the Dane County Critical Incident Response Program; Ray Maida, a detective with the Madison Police Department; Linda Ruzicka, a detective and police hostage negotiator with the Madison Police Department; and Sandy Nowak, assistant attorney general for Wisconsin and a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire social work graduate.
