EAU CLAIRE — "Ye Olde Madrigale Dinner," a 15th century-style banquet, will be served at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Fellowship Hall of the Christ Church Cathedral in Eau Claire. Doors will open at 6 p.m. each night.
Dinner will be presented in the spirit of Elizabethan times when the Lord of the Manor invited his friends into his home to celebrate a successful harvest and the beginning of the holiday season. The Fellowship Hall at Christ Church Cathedral will be transformed into the Great Hall of Lord and Lady Chamberlain's castle. Participants will receive the names of nobility as they enter the Great Hall.
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will stage the celebration, with Gary Schwartzhoff acting as producer and choral director.
Guests will be entertained by the Court Chamber Choir, with Schwartzhoff conducting; the Court Brass Choir, with Rodney Hudson conducting; and the Court Recorders, with senior Kevin Bartig, Wausau, conducting.
Participants are invited to dress in period clothing but formal attire also is acceptable.
Dinner will include wassail, cream of wild rice soup, roasted loin of pork, parsley potatoes, honey glazed carrots, onion roll and an apple dessert.
Tickets are $22 per person and must be purchased between Nov. 10 and Dec. 3 at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727. Tickets will not be available for sale at the door. No refunds or exchanges will be given.
