EAU CLAIRE
It's been 15 years since Rob Faust, artistic director of the Faustwork Mask Dance Theater, last visited the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The art department will bring the Mask Man and Faustwork IN CONCERT to campus for a public performance at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Tamarack Room of Davies Center. The event is free but will be limited to the first 200 people to arrive.
A workshop also is planned for 11 a.m. Nov. 19 in room 105 of the McPhee Center. The workshop, which is targeted to theater and dance students, requires registration.
Tiit Raid, professor of art, said the last time he saw Fast perform "he had the audience in the palm of his hand ... there were several children in the audience as well, and he had them laughing and giggling along with the grown-ups."
Faustwork IN CONCERT is a performance that lies somewhere between dance and theater using an array of masks, movement and comedy. Faustwork Theater refers to IN CONCERT as "physical theater."
Faust has created and produced four shows that spend the year touring around the country. Before founding his own company, he was a member of the Pilobolus Dance Theater. Faust makes all the masks used in the performances and has created masks for The Opera Ensemble of New York and A.C.T in San Francisco. -30- JV/JB
