EAU CLAIRE
An exhibit of maps focusing on Eau Claire and including an original map of the eastern United States dating to 1776 is on display in the grand corridor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's McIntyre Library.
The exhibit, "Mapping Our Place: Eau Claire," opened Oct. 5 and continues through fall semester. It includes Great Lakes maps of the 17th and 18th centuries, early Wisconsin maps from 1818-1855, 19th-century Eau Claire maps, and topographic, cultural, geologic, landforms, recreational, voting, census and digital maps.
The exhibit commemorates Archives Week (Oct. 4-10), sponsored by the Wisconsin Historical Records Advisory Board. Archives Week was observed throughout the state with exhibits and lectures.
The Chippewa Valley Museum also is featuring an exhibit commemorating Archives Week, "Maps and Mapping: The History and Evolution of Maps," which will be on display until Nov. 1. -30- ML/AH
