UW-Eau Claire's Fourth Annual|
A Cappella Extravaganza Set for Oct. 16
MAILED: Oct. 5, 1998|
Friday, Oct. 16, marks the fourth anniversary of the A Cappella Extravaganza at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. At 7:30 p.m. that day in Schofield Auditorium, six small ensembles will sing a cappella, which means without instrumental accompaniment.
"The event is a showcase for UW-Eau Claire a cappella ensembles as well as some from area choral ensembles," said Gary Schwartzhoff, director of choral activities at UW-Eau Claire.
Friday evening's lineup includes the Innocent Men from the Singing Statesmen, Impromptu from Concert Choir, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Girl's Night Out, TBA and Eau Claire Memorial High School Madrigals.
"This concert is an early event in the year for ensembles to get some experience on the stage," Scwartzhoff said.
The program has been in effect since 1995 when UW-Eau Claire senior music major Rod Stoughton approached Schwartzhoff with the idea.
"The Extravaganza is a great opportunity to perform with some fabulous a cappella groups in a casual setting ... and it's a wonderful way to showcase the talent the choral department has," senior music major and Impromptu member Becky Raddemann said.
All tickets for the Extravaganza are $5 for reserved seating and are available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727.
