Spanish Week to
Begin Oct. 12

EAU CLAIRE
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Delta Psi Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi will sponsor Spanish Week the week of Oct. 12-17.
Spanish Week was started in 1968 by Roma Hoff, professor emerita of foreign languages, and the UW-Eau Claire chapter of Sigma Delta Pi.
The Sigma Delta Pi initiation will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, in the Hibbard Hall Penthouse.
At 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the Presidents Room of Davies Center, a panel of Eau Claire students, alumni and staff will discuss "International Experiences, International Careers."
Also on Tuesday, a presentation in Spanish titled "Identidad Nacional: El Gaucho" will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Presidents Room. The speaker is Juan Carlos Chaves, a native of Argentina and associate lecturer in the UW-Eau Claire department of foreign languages.
A Sigma Delta Pi sale of cookbooks and Hispanic crafts will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, on the third floor of Hibbard Hall.
A presentation by Rita and Maria Teresa Mueske titled "Language Immersion: A Look at Spanish Immersion Schools in the Twin Cities Area" will be given at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the Hibbard Penthouse.
The Study Abroad Fair, sponsored by the Center for International Education, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.
The "Ballet Folklorico Mexico" will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Council Fire Room. Tickets for this event are $3 for UW-Eau Claire students or $5 for the general public and may be purchased at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727.
An opportunity to speak Spanish, learn typical dances and enjoy live music will be offered during "Sabores: Latino Music and Dance" at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the Tamarack Room of Davies Center.
Spanish Week will conclude with the Spanish Medieval Dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, in the Dulany Inn of Davies Center. Tickets are $9.50 for students or $11.25 for the general public and may be purchased at the Service Center.
