Boys and girls ages 4-7 can spend a few weeks being active and having fun this fall through a preschool gymnastics program offered at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
"Just for Kids" is designed to teach children the basics about gymnastics and encourage a positive attitude toward physical fitness. Participants will learn the value of increased flexibility and strength, getting them off to a healthy start in life.
Six sessions of the class are being offered at various times and days, beginning Sept. 3 or 5 and ending Dec. 10 or 12. Each session has an enrollment of seven to allow for individualized instruction.
Lisa McIntyre, UW-Eau Claire's women's gymnastic coach, will instruct the classes. McIntyre has more than 11 years of coaching experience and toured with the 1984 Olympic gymnastic team.
Participants learn about names of muscles and their functions and the importance of stretching and warming up while gaining valuable social skills, McIntyre said.
"What I really like to see is kids moving and getting involved in something fun, where they're also learning about gymnastics and themselves," she said.
The 15-week program costs $143 per child. Enroll based on the age of the child as of Aug. 1.
