MAILED: July 8, 1998
EAU CLAIRE In the real world, good triumphs over evil and the villain always gets his due. Or so the cast of "Only an Orphan Girl" would have you believe.
The third and final show in a series of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Summer Theatre 1998 plays, the old-fashioned melodrama invites audience members to participate in the action on stage from the comfort of their seats in Kjer Theatre.
The play includes two hours full of cheering for the hero, booing at the villain and laughing in spite of yourself.
The audience also can sing along with between-act songs like "A Boy's Best Friend is His Mother," "And the Band Played On" and "Daisy."
"Only an Orphan Girl" is directed by graduate student Keith Lorasch and features UW-Eau Claire students and Eau Claire community members.
Written by Henning Nelms, the melodrama opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 10. Performances continue at 7:30 p.m. July 11 and 14-18 and at 1:30 p.m. July 11-12 and 19.
Tickets for the show are available at the University Service Center located in Davies Center.
The cost is $8 for general public, $7 for non-UW-Eau Claire students and senior citizens, $6 with a UW-Eau Claire ID or $4 for youth ages 17 and under.
