EAU CLAIRE -- A number of journalism students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire were awarded scholarships during a May convocation.
Molly Brekke, a senior journalism and art major from Lanesboro, Minn., received the $50 Robert Smith Excellence in Graphics Award.
Chris Carr, a senior journalism major from Eden Prairie, Minn., was awarded The Ann Devroy Fellowship and the $200 William Randolph Hearst Scholarship.
Junior Tiffany Drake, a journalism major from Milton, received the $200 William Randolph Hearst Scholarship and the $500 Lee and Esther Sanford Hench Scholarship.
Rebekah Gradinjan, a senior journalism major from Greenbush, was awarded the $250 Joanne Friedrick Scholarship. Junior Steven Hyden, a journalism major from Appleton, received the $500 Arthur L. Murray Memorial Journalism Award. The $250 Cindy Schott Humanitarian Award was given to sophomore journalism major Elizabeth Kuntz of South St. Paul, Minn.
Senior journalism major Joseph Lover, Green Bay, was awarded the $500 Lee and Esther Sanford Hench Scholarship. Craig McHugh, a senior journalism major from Madison, received the $200 William Randolph Hearst Scholarship. Senior journalism major Katy Pratt, Lake Geneva, received the $200 William Randolph Hearst Scholarship.
Junior journalism major Marie Salzman, Hudson, received the $500 Lee and Esther Sanford Hench Scholarship. Senior journalism major Kerri Sell, Hartford, received the James E. Fields Scholarship for $250.
Kirsten Singleton, a senior journalism major from Clintonville, was awarded the $400 Leslie D. Polk Scholarship and the $200 William Randolph Hearst Scholarship.
Katharine Skinner, a senior journalism major from Cumberland, received the $250 Erwin W. Kaiser Scholarship. Amy Witczak, a senior communication major from New London, received the $100 Excellence in Communication Scholarship.
Winners of the $1,000 1997-98 Milwaukee Foundation's Journal Foundation - Walter Jay and Clara Charlotte Damm Scholarships also were recognized during the convocation. The winners were Salina Heller, a 1997 journalism graduate from Black River Falls; Scott Peterson, a 1998 journalism graduate from Marshall; Kerri Sell, a senior journalism major from Hartford; and Matthew Wise, a senior political science major from New Berlin.
