EAU CLAIRE -- Susan Tietz will receive the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Alumni Distinguished Service Award during a luncheon May 23 at the university.
The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Dulany Inn of Davies Center.
The Alumni Distinguished Service Award is the highest award presented to a UW-Eau Claire graduate. It recognizes the ultimate in personal and professional achievement and service.
Tietz, sole owner of McDonough Manufacturing Co. in Eau Claire since 1995, is a 1971 graduate of UW-Eau Claire. McDonough, run by her father and grandfather before her, makes sawmill equipment.
"She is very accomplished in the business world, but her accomplishments go well beyond McDonough," said Denise Pedersen, director of the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association. "She has contributed much to the Chippewa Valley and UW-Eau Claire through her service to the community and campus."
Tietz was selected to receive UW-Eau Claire's highest honor because of her excellent service to the university and the Chippewa Valley, as well as her professional achievements as the longtime employee, officer and now CEO of McDonough, Pedersen said. Tietz is a member of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation board of directors and its Business Advisory Council. She has been active with the Eau Claire Industrial Development Corp., Clearwater Kiwanis and she currently co-chairs the capital campaign for the Indian Waters Girl Scout Council and holds active membership in many other organizations.
"Her commitment to service is well known," Pedersen said. "She is known for her willingness, dependability and organizational skills."
Pedersen said UW-Eau Claire is proud to join others in the Chippewa Valley in recognizing Tietz's success, noting that Tietz was named by the Greater Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce as its 1998 Small-Business Person of the Year.
Tickets to the luncheon are $9. Tickets will be available at the door or by calling the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association at (715) 836-5607.
