EAU CLAIRE -- The Children's Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire received a $3,000 grant to go toward staff retention. The grant will be used for activities and materials to support the teachers and staff at the Children's Center, said Jane Linton, director of the Children's Center. The money will be allocated into three parts.
* The grant will provide $1,000 toward the purchase of multicultural materials
for classrooms. This will help provide more diverse teaching methods, Linton said.
* Another $1,000 will be used to help staff attend conferences. Usually the staff attends conferences that are nearby and offered year after year. With the extra grant money, the staff will have more options in choosing a conference, Linton said.
* And $1,000 will be used for a staff retreat, which is still being planned. It will be
a workshop with a speaker and help the staff come together, Linton said.
This is the first time the Children's Center has received a grant for staff retention, Linton said. The Center can apply to renew the grant each year, she said.
"The grant will provide money that we otherwise wouldn't have," Linton said. "And it will allow us to do things we can't do with our regular budget."
