Summer Offerings to
Focus On Needs of Girls

EAU CLAIRE -- Two classes focusing on the needs of girls will be offered this summer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
"Girls At-Risk," a two-week, two-credit course will run from 1-4 p.m. June 22- July 2.
The class will focus on the risks and barriers to successful self-development of girls between the ages of 10 and 20. Family, cultural and school remedies to ensure a safe passage from girl to young womanhood also will be covered.
A conference titled "Children Youth At-Risk Institute: Focus on Girls and Young Women" will be offered from 8 a.m.-noon Aug. 3-6.
The four themes of the conference are "In Challenge of Self," "Female Gang Members: Violence on the Rise," "The Dilemma of Desire: Young Women's Sex/Gender Experiences" and "What Do Girls and Women Want: What Do They Need."
The conference is available for credit and open to the public.
