Concert Choir to
Perform April 19

EAU CLAIRE --The Concert Choir will present a concert at 2 p.m. April 19 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Concert Choir is under the direction of associate professor Dr. Gary Schwartzhoff.
The choir is composed of 68 men and women who are primarily juniors and seniors, though 18 of the male members are freshmen, Schwartzhoff said.
The choir will begin the program with pieces "Deo Dicamus Gratias" by Gottfreid Homilius, "Pater Noster" by Jacob Handl, "Os Justi Meditabitur Sapientiam" by Anton Bruckner, "Heilig" by Felix Mendelssohn, "Our Father" by Alexander Gretchaninoff" and "Lux Aeterna" by Edwin Fissinger.
"Lux Aeterna" features Annelies Slack, a senior soprano from Park Falls, and Jacob Schrandt, a sophomore baritone from Winona, Minn.
The concert will continue with "Wataridori" by Janika Vandervelde, a composer who graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1977 with a degree in music education. This piece was commissioned for the 50th anniversary of the department of music.
Several of these pieces the choir performed at the American Choral Directors Association Divisional Convention on March 10-12 in Minneapolis.
"Impromptu," a six-member a cappella ensemble, will perform several selections including "And I Love Her" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, "Texas Girl" by Randy Newman and "Orinoco Flow" by Enya.
The Concert Choir will conclude the program performing several folk songs including "Veniki" as arranged by F. Rubstov.
Ticket prices for the concert are $4.75 for the general public; $3.75 for senior citizens, children under 18 and faculty and staff; or $1.25 with a UW-Eau Claire ID. Tickets are available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727.
