Chancellor's Search and Screen Committee
To Make Recommendations to President Lyall |
MAILED: April 13, 1998|
EAU CLAIRE -- On Wednesday, April 15, UW-Eau Claire's Chancellor's Search and Screen Committee will give to UW System President Katharine Lyall and a special committee of the Board of Regents the names of up to five candidates it is recommending be considered for the university's chancellorship.
The committee will not rank the individuals it recommends to Lyall, but will forward only the names of individuals whom members would welcome as UW-Eau Claire's next chancellor.
Lyall, working from the list of names recommended by the committee, will declare all or some on the list as finalists. The Regents then will interview those finalists and select UW-Eau Claire's next chancellor from that group.
It is expected that the finalists _ those recommended by the committee and accepted by Lyall _ will be identified the morning of Friday, April 17. Beginning Friday, the committee will make information about each finalist available on the Chancellor's Search and Screen Committee Web site at www.uwec.edu/Sands/Chancellor.
Those finalists named by Lyall will be brought for one-day visits to UW-Eau Claire during the weeks of April 20 and 27. The visits are intended to give finalists the chance to meet people on campus and in the community, and to confirm that there is a good fit between their own candidacies and the future of UW-Eau Claire. Detailed schedules of those visits will be made available after they are arranged with those applicants selected as finalists.
As part of those visits, finalists will meet with community representatives, such as city of Eau Claire officials and Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce leaders, as well as campus representatives.
A public forum _ to which the university and Eau Claire communities will be invited _ will be part of each of the finalists' agendas during the campus visit. After each of the visits, members of the Chancellor's Search and Screen Committee will hold special office hours to listen to the reactions and opinions of the campus and community. After all visits are complete, the committee will summarize the reactions and opinions, and transmit them to Lyall and the Regents.
The Board of Regents will interview the finalists May 1 in Madison.
The Board of Regents will approve the hiring of the selected individual during its regular monthly meeting May 7 and 8 in Oshkosh.
The committee encourages everyone to check its Web page regularly for the newest information about the search. Jim Oberly will continue to be the committee spokesperson.
