EAU CLAIRE -- The ceremony to name the Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for the university's former chancellor and his wife, Leonard and Dorellen Haas, will take place April 24 in conjunction with the Provost's Lecture.
Chancellor Emeritus Larry Schnack, who was chancellor when the Fine Arts Center was dedicated to the Haases in 1986, Dorellen Haas, and Interim Chancellor Marjorie Smelstor will participate. The ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Center.
The name change to the Leonard & Dorellen Haas Fine Arts Center was approved by the UW System Board of Regents during its April 3 meeting.
Following the naming ceremony, this year's Provost Lecturer Penelope Cecchini, professor of music, will present a program on Chopin. Cecchini came to UW-Eau Claire in 1966 when Leonard Haas was president of the university. The Haases have been ardent admirers of Cecchini's talents ever since.
A gala reception in the Fine Arts Center lobby will follow the lecture-recital.
Tickets for the naming ceremony and Provost's Lecture, which closes the 56th season of The Forum, are $7 for the public; $5 for those age 62 and over, and UW-Eau Claire faculty/staff; or $3 for those age 17 and under, and UW-Eau Claire students. Tickets are available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and will be sold at the door if there are any remaining the day of the program.
