Jazz II Ensemble to
Perform April 16
MAILED: April 7, 1998|
EAU CLAIRE -- The University Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present a Jazz II Ensemble Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Center.
The concert is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Leonard Haas.
The ensemble, with a membership of 22 freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors, has been directed by associate professor Ron Keezer for 30 years.
The first pieces of the program are "Rhoda Map" by Thad Jones, "Bird Count" by Maria Schneider, "To You" by Thad Jones, "Stroup's Troups" by Dominic Spera, and "The Biddle-De-Bop Samba" by Thad Jones.
After a short intermission, the concert will continue with "Dizzyland" by Don Menza, "Bemsha Swing" as arranged by Brent Wallarab, "Slo-Funk" by Bob Mintzer and "Spring Wind." "Spring Wind," featuring the drum section, was written by Keezer's son, Geoff.
The program will close with "Doodle-Oodle" by Billy Byers.
"Doodle-Oodle" will be played at the end of the concert because it's a showstopper and nothing can follow it, Keezer said.
Several of the compositions feature the saxophone, trumpet and drum sections because the musicians this year are so talented, Keezer said. It's not every year all the sections are featured, he said.
"It should be a good concert," Keezer said. "The kids are really excited."
Tickets for the concert are $3.75 for the general public; $2.75 for senior citizens and youths; or free for faculty, staff and students with a university ID. Tickets are available at the University Service Center , (715) 836-3727, or at the door.
