MAILED: March 26, 1998
EAU CLAIRE --Regency, a vocal ensemble that started on the streets of Baltimore and is now the most praised a cappella musical group on the college circuit, will perform April 8 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Honored with many awards and nominations from the National Association for Campus Activities, the five-member group will begin its show at 7:30 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium.
Regency presents a night of what it calls "a cappella, jazz-appella, funk-appella, rap-appella and rock-appella" -- mixed with high energy, humor and audience involvement. Often called "the Temptations of the '90s," the group performs the hottest sounds of today mixed with the classic music of Otis Redding, the Righteous Brothers, Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, James Brown and even country artists.
Performing as many as 29 shows a month, Regency tours clubs and festivals and appears at more than 200 college campuses annually. The group has won NACA's Contemporary Music Artist and Jazz Artist awards, and has been named Performing Artist of the Year. It was named Best Contemporary Group in Campus Activities Today magazine's Readers Choice Awards.
Tickets are $5 ($3 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID card) at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727.
The program is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
