EAU CLAIRE -- University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire alumnus John McCarty will give a concert Friday, April 3, to benefit the UW-Eau Claire chapter of the American Music Therapy Association for Students.
The concert, open to the public, will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Schofield Hall Auditorium at UW-Eau Claire.
Proceeds from the event will help the student music therapy association re-supply musical equipment for clinics and programs it hosts for clients ranging from children in schools to the elderly in retirement homes, said senior Jessica Lichty, president of the association.
Music therapy combines the use of art and music in the treatment and rehabilitation of people suffering from a variety of diseases and disabilities in the areas of mental, physical, emotional and social functioning.
"We're very excited about the concert," Lichty said. "It's going to help our organization in many ways."
McCarty, a 1997 music therapy major graduate, has performed at the university numerous times in the past and was interested in helping the association, Lichty said.
General admission tickets, priced at $5, will be sold in advance at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, starting Monday, March 30. Tickets also will be available at the door before the concert.
