EAU CLAIRE -- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will be represented by Jazz Ensemble I at the 26th Annual New York Brass Conference for Scholarships from March 29-April 1.
The conference is one of the largest professional classical and jazz events in New York City, said associate professor and director of Jazz I Robert Baca.
"We're very honored to be playing at this event," Baca said.
Baca said because this event has been going on so long, many professional musicians will be there. The 23 UW-Eau Claire students performing as part of the ensemble will be able to see many of their heroes.
Jazz I, the only college band at this event, was asked to perform after being recommended, Baca said. It will perform at 2 p.m. March 29 at The Lighthouse in Downtown Manhattan.
While visiting New York, members of the ensemble will visit one of the nation's greatest high school jazz programs to recruit students and perform a concert.
