EAU CLAIRE -- Mae Willkom, a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, won the Best Student Presentation honor at the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Section of the American Water Resources Association.
Willkom, a geology major from Chippewa Falls, made her presentation during the groundwater session on the proposed Crandon Mine. Other speakers included representatives from the state Department of Natural Resources and nationally known groundwater modellers hired by Crandon Mining Co. Her presentation was selected as the best of the session, which led to her winning the best student presentation honor. She competed with students from UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay and UW-Stevens Point.
