EAU CLAIRE -- Every teacher wants a classroom environment where creativity, thoughtfulness and problem solving are valued and practiced.
The tricky part is getting there.
The workshop "Teaching and Assessing the Habits of the Mind," sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Education Outreach office and the Eau Claire School District, can help teachers reach their goals of an ideal and productive classroom atmosphere.
The three-day workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 9-11 p.m. at Northstar Middle School in Eau Claire.
Guest speaker Dr. Art Costa, co-director of the Institute for Intelligent Behavior in Berkley, Calif., will offer tips on how to help students take charge of their own behaviors and achieve high order thinking abilities.
Among other things, Costa has authored a number of journals and is an emeritus professor of education at California State University-Sacramento.
The cost of the workshop is $150 per participant and includes registration fees, workshop materials and refreshments. One graduate credit is available in addition to the workshop fee.
